The legendary rock band performs at RED ARENA on 22 January. CHAIF has a unique musical style combining rock, reggae, pop and that special Russian genre, “the author’s song” or the art song. For 36 years, the band has been giving everyone the gift of a happy orange mood from their signature song. Music lovers have been singing CHAIF’s songs in all kinds of situations. Their songs are known and loved throughout Russia. CHAIF is rightly considered the people’s band. Originally, the band was called Chai-F but the unusual spelling meant it was sometimes mispronounced. Eventually, the band decided to put an end to the mispronunciation “Chai-Ef” and dropped the hyphen. CHAIF gave its first concert on 29 September 1985.
CHAIF has released over 30 albums. “Argentina – Jamaica”, “No one will hear”, “Let everything be the way you wish” and “In her eyes” have topped Russian radio station charts for many years. Yet, to truly enjoy their songs, you need to go to a live concert. CHAIF always gives 100%, which is why their performances are regularly sold out. The band from the Urals creates a very warm and soulful vibe. No matter what thoughts are spinning through your head before the concert, you are sure to leave it in a happy orange mood.
The story of the name CHAIF
The band’s rehearsals frequently turned into friendly get-togethers with tea (chai) being one of the most popular drinks there. But the musicians brewed it in a… coffee maker, which produced a very strong drink with a taste unlike anything else, a taste that gave the “feeling to total kef”. Rehearsal breaks were dubbed “going for some CHAIF”.
CHAIF plays rock of a kind that is both accessible and daring. They artfully blend reggae motifs, hints of art songs and lyrics that touch people’s very souls.
