RED ARENA has seen a lot, but this evening from RCC Boxing Promotions kept the crowd on edge until the very end. On August 22, there wasn't a single idle minute in this major boxing match – only pure sport, where the tide of the fight changed every moment.
First, the heavyweights entered the ring. Sochi's Vartan Arutyunyan faced the undefeated Basir Abakarov. In the second round, Arutyunyan powerfully knocked his opponent down. Abakarov rose and managed to continue the competitive fight until the final bell, but the judges unanimously awarded the victory to Vartan. This was his 13th consecutive victory and the first time Abakarov's perfect record had been shattered.
The grand tournament closed with the main fight of the evening: Valery Oganisyan faced seasoned Turkish boxer Ege Arin Konuk, who boasts a wealth of awards. This was a serious test for the Sochi fighter on his way to the European title, but the Russian handled it with composure. Having outlasted his experienced opponent over the distance, Valery won the vacant European Boxing Association (EBP) light welterweight title by unanimous decision, maintaining a clean record of 11 wins (5 KOs).
Let's recap those emotions. Find out more in our photo report.
